Chatted with Gary yesterday about this. It seams that Terminal Server may not be leaking VC's, just using far more than we see for a "normal" CIFS session.

The next version of alfresco will allow the number of virtual circuits to be configured through alfresco-global.properties.

Hallo Peter,

quite interesting to read about your recent experiences with the Alfresco CIFS server implementation.

I personally think it is a coin with two sides.

On the one hand, I really thank Alfresco for actually providing a Java based implementation. As far as I know, it still is the only implementation available.

On the other hand, it can expose certain more or less known problems depending on how you use it - just as the issues you mention.

In fact, I have been analyzing the old "listing a large space causes heavy load" issue again recently (and found a few tweaks so far).

Maybe the docs should explicitly tell you when not to use it in order to avoid trouble. Sure "use it unless ..." does not read like good marketing material, but I think it would do better in the long run.

Regarding your leak issue, I have to say I wonder how other CIFS implementations would deal with a leak caused by Windows Terminal Server.

thanks for sharing your thoughts

I've just added _es.properties to the project and compiled, it works much better than Alfresco's out of the box viewer. Thanks a lot

I've tested it on my Ipad1, and it starts loading and then the browser chokes. The pdf.js script alone weighs in around 800kb compressed, so its a lot fo javascript processing to do to render a pdf.

This is VERY cool. We'll look forward to the release of the code. One question: Does this also enable previews on iOS devices (especially the iPad)? If so, that would make it even cooler.

Thanks!

Thanks,
I suggest you test the plain viewer at <a href="http://mozilla.github.com/pdf.js/web/viewer.html" rel="nofollow">http://mozilla.github.com/pdf.js/web/viewer.html</a> and you can see its current features. You can actually upload your own pdf files to test how well they render. Since what I do is use the viewer in an iframe, they will be pretty much the same. Source code will be published shortly.

Great post thanks !

Maybe an iFrame Dashlet would be of interest too (if it does not exist).

I hope one day Alfresco will be as powerfull as a Liferay portal to ease Apps integration :-)
